You can keep monitoring your baby with the LCD monitor screen off.
Here is how to turn the LCD monitor screen off:-
Press LCD ON/OFF key to turn off the LCD display of the parent unit.

How should I set the baby monitor when I just want it to detect my baby's movement, especially when he/ she is in distress and has large movement, but not when he/she is resting and playing toys?
You can turn on the motion detection and adjust its sensitivity level to match the detection level of your baby's movement.
By default, the motion detection feature is Off. Here is how to turn it on:-

After you turned on the motion detection, you have to adjust the sensitivity levels to control the motion detection threshold that triggers an alert. There are 3 levels, and they are Low, Medium, and High.
